What a great ride! We had been expecting rain towards the end of the day but this was a lovely comfortable sunny ride, and our supper in the woods at Stover Country Park was dry too. Very lucky! (pics in random order immediately below and further down)
Huge congratulations to Jude for completing her first 65 miler (and to Anna who has done a few long rides now but not quite 65 miles) and a big thank you to David for again organising a ride with such fantastic scenery and lovely refreshment stops. Thank you too to both Geoff and Rose who once again came up trumps with a lovely hot supper to finish at a very pretty woodland venue.
For parts one and three of our route please click here and here. I personally didn’t think I was up to 64 miles and so rode the first 20 to Tavistock, had a lift with Geoff to Okehampton (there is always a way to shave off a few miles!) and then rode the final 30 miles round the top edge of the moor to Bovey Tracey and on to Stover Country Park. But broadly our route was via Caradon Town, Linkinhorne, Horsebridge and Chip Shop to The Original Pasty House at Tavistock. Then up to Lydford and along the Granite Trail to Okehampton Station for the next Café Stop; and finally onto the north side of the moor to Belstone, Sticklepath, South Zeal (gorgeous views), Whiddon Down, Easton, Moretonhampstead and Bovey Tracey and along to Stover Country Park. Here we found Geoff and Rose with the gazebo up, an array of quiches, salads and the goulash bubbling away and the kettle on for a welcome cuppa. Supper sorted, Neil popped into Newton Abbot for the train home and the rest of us loaded up bikes and camping gear into our cars and drove home to rest our aching limbs 🙂
