What a lovely ride we had last Sunday! At the start we were delighted to welcome Alan, a CTC cyclist from St Columb Major. Mike led the way west out of St Austell in the direction of St Stephen. Our later start meant an earlier coffee and cake stop at Starbucks, Fraddon. On we went though the lanes towards the north coast. Blue sky was briefly replaced by a heavy downpour, just time enough to unpack our raincoats… St Columb, St Eval, Porthcothan then reaching our late lunch stop at St Merryn. Lovely little cafe serving great tasty food, ‘Nina Tea Rooms’. Just what we needed, will go there again.
The lovely sunshine had now vanished and it turned a bit cooler. Now into the wind going south to Winnard’s Perch. Here we said goodbye to Alan. We carried on to Roche and over the ‘Cornish Mountains’ to Greensplat, love that name….. When we arrived back at Mike’s, his wife, Rose, had prepared a lovely spread of homemade cake and scones and lots of tea to go with it. Thank you! A great day out and the weather was so much better than initially forecast. We explored some new villages and lanes, thank you Mike for leading this one.
