Yes, they did it! Karen and Deb started cycling just a year ago. They have been regular members of our Liskeard Ladies Cycle Group and had set themselves the target of attempting the Dartmoor Classic Ride (35 mile route) which took place on Sunday. They knew it would be hilly and so they trained properly for the ride, building up their mileage by tackling increasingly lengthy rides; and building their strength by attending the Aerobike sessions at Lux Park Leisure Centre. The day came and they went for it big time. Not only did they complete the ride, but they completed it in three hours and 12 minutes! This represented an average speed of 10 miles an hour including stops – amazing considering the hills – and fast enough to be awarded silver medals! Huge congratulations to both of you! We hope you are now going to have a bit of a rest before your next cycling adventure.
Meanwhile, David took the Liskeard Velo group on the first of our summer car assisted rides, meeting in Tavistock and cycling via Yelverton down the Plym Valley Trail and back – with all the fun of those tunnels and amazing viaducts.
