Liskeard Ladies Route and Ride Stats: 19.4 miles; 445 m climbed
On Saturday, Liskeard Ladies enjoyed a 20 mile jaunt round Tilland Mill, Tideford, Heskyn Mill and Trerulefoot. Amidst talk of upgrading equipment and new bikes, they were delighted to welcome Carol and Anne-Marie and were grateful for the support from this month’s mechanical support team, Pete and Geoff- who also handed out chocs at Tideford to help with the hill after Heskyn Mill. Over coffee at Route 38 Megan reminded the team that those of us who have been out with the group more than five times need to look at taking out CTC (Cycling UK) membership to give us our third party liability insurance – so we are covered should we be involved in an accident causing damage or injury to another person or car, etc. With the better weather, Ann took more orders for our Cornwall CTC green jersey; and on the way home we heard the first whitethroats of the season as well as, I think, making a good impression on the Yogi group we passed! A great ride – thank you, Liskeard Ladies!
On Sunday, while David led the Liskeard Velo group on their annual pilgrimage to admire the bluebells at Lydford, six of the green jackets headed down to Devoran to support Martyn and Margaret’s Audax. In glorious sunshine, Mike, Steve and Dave Ball whipped round the 60 mile route while Ann K, Geoff and Pete sauntered at Ann’s relaxed pace round the much shorter 40 miler. Both were absolutely beautiful – sandy lanes, mining engine houses, great black backed gulls, campion, stitchwort and bluebell filled hedgerows; and the most glorious azure sea at our Gwithian Towans check point. A big thank you to Martyn and Margaret for organising this for us – and to Connie and Mary for supporting our team so well with lifts and flapjacks – it was also wonderful to have you there to greet us at the end.
